May marks Preservation Month, when various preservation groups commend individuals and organizations committed to safeguarding our heritage. This year, The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s theme is, “People Saving Places,” which shines a spotlight on the myriad contributions made by individuals, both big and small, in preserving our heritage. Those involved invest their time, resources, and often emotional dedication to safeguard places and things of significance.

In honor of Preservation Month, the Gustav Stickley House Foundation is delighted to acknowledge two esteemed friends who epitomize the “People Saving Places” ethos. David Rudd and Debbie Goldwein have forged a legacy devoted to historic preservation. Their involvement with the Arts & Crafts Society of CNY, David’s leadership as President of the Gustav Stickley House Foundation since 2016 and Debbie’s active engagement with the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, they have made significant contributions to preserve and celebrate the American Arts and Crafts Movement, its founder Gustav Stickley, and his former homes in New York and New Jersey.

Additionally, they own and operate Dalton’s American Decorative Arts in Syracuse, NY. Their shop contains a carefully selected collection of original furniture, pottery, art, and metalwork focusing on the American Arts and Crafts Movement. This month, they will be honored by the Onondaga Historical Association (OHA) in Syracuse, NY, receiving their prestigious  Medal Award, the highest recognition bestowed by OHA for outstanding contributions to preserving and interpreting the history of Onondaga County.
