Phase 2 Restoration

The Interior of the “Original Craftsman”

Outside is Restored

Time to Restore the Inside

Highlights of Phase Two:

  • Restore Main Floor historic spaces – Entry Hall, Living Room, Dining Room, Inglenook and Main Stairway.
  • Restore historic Upper Floor details – Chestnut Doorways, original period bathroom and flooring.
  • Restore all historic fireplaces including Grueby tile in 2nd floor Bedroom and Gustav Stickley’s Study.
  • Create five upper level Guest Suites with private baths, each suite decorated in period decor.
  • Build a fully-accessible rear addition to include an elevator and accessible bathroom.
  • Create a commercial-grade kitchen and adjoining Breakfast Room for overnight guests and event catering.
  • Provide Educational Programming and exhibits. Upgrade all electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security, fire and sprinkler system.

The interior restoration will create a unique Historic House Museum and Guest House.
Visitors will see where Stickley created the first “Craftsman” interior in his own home.
Overnight guests will experience the home as a home and even “sleep where Gus slept.”

The Gustav Stickley House Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) organization, was formed to aid in the restoration and preservation of Gustav Stickley’s former home at 438 Columbus Avenue in Syracuse, NY
